FAQ

Do you have questions about HUC? We have answers. Here are some of the most Frequently Asked Questions. If you still wonder about something, please give us a call or send us an email. We would be happy to chat with you!

What should I wear?

We have no dress code. Some wear ties or dresses. Some come in blue jeans and boots. We want you feel comfortable, so come as you are!

What kind of music do you play?

Because HUC represents all generations, we worship with both hymns and contemporary songs lead by a worship team.

What does HUC believe?

We are an evangelical church that believes the teaching of the Bible. Specifically we believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God who came to earth, died on a cross to forgive sin and rose from the dead to guarantee eternal life for all who would believe in Him. For more information on our core beliefs, check out our “We believe” page.

What kind of people attend HUC?

Our congregation is made up of over 200 people from Hamlet, Palisade, Wauneta, Hayes Center & Stratton. On any given Sunday you will encounter infants, youth, young families, empty nesters & seniors. You will find farmers, teachers, mechanics, nurses, business owners, moms, students, retirees and more. Most importantly, we are a family and very interconnected like a family should be.

What's here for my kids?

Starting with an excellent nursery that is safe, clean and staffed by loving adults, there is something special for every age child from birth through high school! For children four years old through sixth grade there are fun, friendly, and Bible-centered Sunday School classes. These classes are staffed with trained, friendly, and well-qualified teachers and helpers who will make church exciting and memorable for your child. We have a safe child policy and we interview and screen our workers to do the best we can to keep kids safe. For students in Jr. & Sr. High, there are times of meeting in our North & South Houses. Additionally we offer Awana Clubs that meets on Wednesdays and Youth Group that meets at various times and locations throughout the week. During the church service there is nursery and Kid's Corner for kids up to 1st grade.

Where might I fit in?

We have many opportunities for you to participate in the life of our HUC family. We offer several ministries to children, youth, men, women & families. Check out the pages entitled "Connecting To God", "Connecting With Others" and "Connecting Through Service". If you are looking to contribute your abilities, we can certainly find your special ministry niche. Can you teach children? Do you like to help in the kitchen? Are you musically gifted? These and many more ministries await you! Talk to a pastor for more information.

How long has HUC been in the community?

HUC was first birthed as a Sunday School in the early 1900’s as homesteaders moved into the valley forming the village of Hamlet. In 1921 the church building was constructed. The church affiliated with The Christian & Missionary Alliance in 1930. Since that time HUC experienced steady growth and purchased two houses adjacent to the church building, converting them into classroom space and the "Way Station" at the entrance to Hamlet. In 1996 a new sanctuary and classrooms addition were dedicated.  More information can be found at the “History” page.

Am I expected to participate in the offering?

No. We don't invite you to HUC for your offering. We want our service to be a gift to you. We hope you will find in this place a warm family spirit, truth from God's Word, and a place where you can grow in God's grace. Please don't feel any obligation to participate in the offering as a guest.  As God draws you into our fellowship we are confident you will want to be a part of contributing toward what God is accomplishing through us.
